The City of Tescott, located in Ottawa County in central Kansas, is constructing
a new fire station. The fire station has an estimated market value of $209,112
and will be subsidized through a $131,308 KAN STEP grant and volunteer
participation. KAN STEP is an acronym for Kansas Small Town Environment Program
that is funded through the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing. KAN STEP
has successfully used "sweat equity" to help communities reduce costs of water
system improvements and now, fire stations and community centers.
The Project Representative at Tescott is Hal Berkely; the Grant Administrator is
John Cyr of the North Central Kansas Planning Commission; the Architect is
Donnie Marrs of DMA Architects. The Kansas Rural Water Association provides
Inspection Services and Assistance, Steve Duryea is the Technical Assistant
responsible. The new fire station will have five truck bays, a shop area, a
meeting room, and a bathroom. The concrete work and assembly of the all-steel
structure has been contracted to Darvin Dent with Ry-Co. Inc. of Brookville.
