Overview: FY92 - FY09
The Kansas Rural Water Association (KRWA) is pleased to provide this summary report of technical assistance
provided to public water supply systems as a benefit of funding through the Kansas Water Plan Fee and
Clean Drinking Water Fee. This is the 18th annual report by the Association as the program has been
funded through the Kansas Water Plan since 1991 (FY 92).
This contract enabled KRWA to provide assistance to 431 individual public water systems in FY 09. These
consisted of 248 different cities and 183 rural water districts or other systems. The goal of the contract was
to provide approximately 3,200 of on-site assistance to public water systems. The contract provided 3,345.5
hours of on-site assistance and 2,547.5 hours of off-site (travel, phone and support). With time allocated to
providing training, agency contacts, outreach and administrative time, the total time provided for this
contact was 10,667 hours.
In FY 09, KRWA worked with 38 "Special Focus" projects identified with unaccounted for water loss of 30% or
more based on 2007 Annual Water Use Reports.
In FY 09 KRWA provided the following through this contract:
• Assistance to 248 different cities and 183 rural water systems or others; see pages 8 and 9.
• 87 water loss surveys, locating 530,856,000 gallons of loss on an annual basis. The cost of this production or
purchase of water on an annual basis is $1,497,121. Any leakage detected which is considered an emergency
leak is reduced by a minimum of 50% for reporting purposes; see pages 41 through 45.
• Worked with 38 "Special Focus" systems to reduce unaccounted for water loss of 30% or more; see pages 46
through 49.
• Kansas Water Office assigned 95 systems for development or updating of their Water Conservation Plan to
comply with the 2007 Guidelines; see page 50.
Expenditures under this contract totaled $ 330,954.24. Funding was provided in the amount of $329,919.
